Offshore wind power is the use of wind farms constructed in bodies of water, usually in the ocean, to harvest wind energy to generate electricity. There are currently only five offshore wind turbines, all located on Rhode Island; however, offshore wind has the potential to meet up to 90% of U.S. electricity demand by 2050. We spoke with Hand Reed from Environment America to discuss how the U.S. can meet its fullest wind energy potential with the continued development of offshore wind farms.
